April 2022:- Dana Steel Industry LLC is getting solar powered by Sharaf DG Energy
Dana Steel Industry LLC is aiming to reduce emissions and use solar energy whenever feasible as the globe becomes increasingly focused on preventing global temperature increases. Solar energy is enabling more environmentally friendly steel manufacturing. Steel-making facilities are increasingly studying the prospects that solar brings for steel production as a result of the surge in demand for renewable energy technology. Steel is a resource-intensive and emissions-intensive business that also produces critical materials for the transition to a more sustainable global economic model.
MW of Solar Power for Steel Production
Steel will play a significant role in all renewables, particularly solar and wind. Each new MW of solar energy needs 35 to 45 tonnes of steel, whereas each new MW of wind energy necessitates 120 to 180 tonnes. There are two segments to the solar market. The first are smaller rooftop panels that may be seen on houses, museums, and sports stadiums. The second type of project is utility-scale, which uses a lot of steel. These facilities typically produce 100 to 300 megawatts of electricity, with several in the works surpassing 1000 megawatts.
Solar power plants primarily employ three technologies, all of which rely on steel for the framework to which the PV modules or mirrors are attached:
- Solar Photovoltaic (PV) – panels are installed on a fixed or moving structure that allows them to be orientated to the sun at all times of the day; the moving structure is gaining momentum on the fixed, with tracker technology accounting for half of all PV structures by 2025.
- Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) – solar panels with lenses that concentrate the sun’s rays on a tiny cell with a substantially larger energy generating capacity.
- Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV) – PV cells constructed of semiconductor materials convert sunlight to electricity; typically, the substance is salt, which becomes liquid and creates steam to generate energy.
Through the development of novel steel products and solutions, Dana Steel Industries plays a vital role in supporting this market. Sharaf DC Energy provides solar energy to Dana Steel Industries. Solar Panels with a capacity of 1005kWp have been put on the ongoing commercial project, producing 1,630,078 kWh of clean energy per year. This equates to 1,155 tonnes of CO2 averted per year, or 19,101 tree seedlings cultivated for ten years.
