Uses of Naphthenic Base Oil, Transmission Oil BS 148
Uses of Naphthenic Base Oil, Transmission Oil BS 148 for the previous five years, the demand for lubricants, including naphthenic and transmission oils, has been steady at about 36 million tonnes annually. Around 2.8 million metric tonnes of naphthenic oils and transmission oils were consumed globally in 2003, accounting for 7 to 8% of this market.
This situation was very different thirty years ago, when naphthenic oils and transmission oils met more than 20% of global demand. Read on for more information on transmission oils and naphthenic oils.
What is naphthenic oil?
Group V base oils such as naphthenic base oil are created by hydro-treating sweet crude distillates at pressures greater than 2500 psi. Naphthenic base oil has a low pour point, high solubility, little wax, and little aromatic content. Naphthenic base oil is used in a variety of products, including printing inks, adhesives and sealants, gear oils, oil extender polymers, process oils, metalworking, and battery separators.
The superior low-temperature properties of these oils further improve the low-temperature properties of the lubricant formulations. In addition, naphthenic base oils perform better at low temperatures than paraffinic oils, which makes them suitable for the formulation of hydraulic and automatic transmission fluids. Naphthenic oils respond well to antioxidants and additives due to their strong solvency power.
Uses of naphthenic oil
Naphthenic base oils are widely utilised in many industries, including the fabrication of tyres, industrial equipment, and automobiles. The epicentre of the automotive industry has recently been identified as Asia Pacific. However, over the projected period, there will likely be a rise in demand for naphthenic base oil due to increased government investment in the automobile industry, particularly in emerging markets like Mexico, South Africa, and India.
In order to create fuel-efficient automobiles, there is an increasing demand for high-solubility-based lubricants and grease products, as well as an increasing desire for electric vehicles. Naphthenic base oil competes hard with Group II and III base oil due to the abundance of high-production bases.
What is transmission oil?
Simply said, a transmission is a gearbox that converts speed and torque from a rotating power source (such as an engine) to another device (wheels). To ensure optimal functioning, transmission oil is used to lubricate the parts of a car’s transmission.
The majority of manual transmissions use a variety of lubricants with the API specification GL-4. Please refer to your owner’s handbook to be sure you are using the proper fluid for your car’s transmission.
Uses of transmission oil
It is crucial that the fluid level in your gearbox is at the right level; otherwise, it will wear out quickly. A slick surface is necessary for the synchro rings and sliders to match speeds during shifting. Shifting the car will be more challenging if your transmission is low on oil. This wear will accelerate substantially. Make sure the transmission oil is at the proper level if your car is having trouble shifting.
Although lubricating the various transmission components is its main purpose, transmission fluids can also perform the following other tasks:
Clean and protect metal surfaces from wear
Condition gaskets
Enhance cooling function and reduce high operating temperatures
Increase rotational speed and temperature range
